Refund & Cancellation Policy

1. About This Policy

This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies to tournament registration fees collected through the nearChess platform, operated by Catalun Sports Private Limited. nearChess acts as a payment facilitator — entry fees are collected on behalf of the tournament organiser. Refunds are processed by nearChess and credited back to your original payment method.

Note: This policy applies only to offline tournament registrations. nearChess does not charge any fees for online tournaments.

2. Player-Initiated Cancellations

2.1 Cancellation within 24 – 48 hours of Registration

• You are entitled to a full 100% refund of the entry fee if you cancel your registration within 48 hours of the time of payment.
• No reason or documentation is required.
• The refund will be credited to your original payment method within 5–10 business days, subject to your bank's processing time.
• nearChess's facilitation/convenience fee may or may not be refundable depending on the payment gateway's terms — this will be shown clearly at the time of cancellation.

2.2 Cancellation after 48 hours

• Cancellations requested more than 48 hours after registration are subject to the organiser's individual cancellation policy.
• You should contact the organiser directly using the contact details on the tournament page.
• nearChess will facilitate any refund that the organiser approves, but cannot guarantee a refund in these cases.

3. How to Cancel

1. Log in to your nearChess account at nearchess.com or open the mobile app.
2. Go to My Registrations and locate the tournament registration you wish to cancel.
3. Tap or click Cancel Registration and confirm.
4. A cancellation confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address.
5. The refund will be initiated automatically if your cancellation is within the 48-hour window.

If you encounter any issue cancelling through the app, email us at hi@nearchess.com with your confirmation code and we will process the cancellation manually.

4. Tournament Cancelled by Organiser

• If the organiser cancels or postpones the tournament, all confirmed registrations will receive a full 100% refund of the entry fee, regardless of when the cancellation occurs.
• nearChess will notify you via email and push notification as soon as a cancellation is confirmed.
• Refunds will be processed within 7–10 business days of the cancellation notice.

5. Disqualification or No-Show

• Registration fees are not refunded if you are disqualified from a tournament due to rule violations or misconduct.
• If you do not show up (no-show) on the tournament day without prior cancellation, the fee is generally forfeited. Contact the organiser to discuss any exceptional circumstances.

6. Refund Processing Times

Times are indicative and depend on your bank or payment provider. nearChess initiates refunds promptly — processing delays on the bank side are outside our control.
